Satellite Internet technology has come a long way.

Internet technology has come a long way from the days when a 20 kbps speed dial-up connection was considered fast. Cable Internet, broadband and DSL connections brought in a new era in Internet technology. What broadband Internet cannot offer is coverage in remote areas where laying cables in not feasible for broadband service providers. This is where satellite Internet scores over broadband and other Internet technologies. There are many benefits of satellite Internet technology. Such as price, speed and connectivity are at par or even better than other technologies. In the United States Satellite Internet services are offered by HughesNet and WildBlue. They cover 99% of all the zip codes in the country. Satellite Internet connectivity is not far off for people living near the Arctic Circle or the tropical regions. In countries like France ¼ of the population still does not have access to broadband connectivity. Satellite connections are proving to be a great enabler for people in these regions to stay connected with the outside world.

In preparation for the much anticipated launch of SPACEWAY 3, Hughes completed a month of rigorous over-the-air testing with SPACEWAY 2 earlier this year. Following complete testing in a lab environment, testing was subsequently conducted using the actual satellite in orbit, validating its IP broadband capabilities and setting the stage for the future success of SPACEWAY 3.
The Hughes test team, composed of more than 40 engineers and technicians, ran approximately 160 readiness tests over a 30-day period to ensure that everything works properly—from the transmission and switching systems, to the front-end systems and user interfaces for configuring the terminals and managing the network operations control center.
The successful completion of this over-the-air testing represents another critical step in the countdown to the launch of SPACEWAY 3.
Hughes, the Pioneer of satellite communication.

Hughes is one of the leading satellite communication providers in the world. The history of the company goes back to 1932 when Howard Hughes fascinated by aircrafts founded Hughes aircrafts. During the Second World War, the US government asked Hughes to produce a cargo aircraft; but Hughes was unable to deliver the aircrafts until two years after the end of the war. After the war Hughes became one of the largest defense contractors to the United States government supplying weapons systems, missiles, satellites and lasers. The company was very successful and managed by highly qualified engineers. Howard Hughes started getting involved in the day to day management of the company around 1950. He was a billionaire who started running the company without any corporate governance. He started making his own decisions and over-ruling the decision made by the board. As a result many top executives left the company during that time.
